What is “Super Straight?”

The meaning of “super straight” gender identity is finally revealed.

@kyleroyce tiktok user uses super straight term as anti lgbtq+ to defend his straight preferance without being called bigot or transphobic

The “super straight” gender identity that everyone is talking about, is finally explained.

Definition of “super straight”

The term “super straight” refers to cis-gendered (heterosexual) straight males or females that identify as “straight”, and is used as such to avoid any potential judgment from non-gender conforming individuals or the LGBTQ+ community, Therefore, the standard word “straight” has been transformed into this new catchy phrase to fit the rest of the existing gender spectrum.

If you are new to this and have a hard time understanding, you aren’t the only one. The trend has just recently surfaced on the internet, and it’s gaining in popularity faster than you think. From TikTok and Instagram to Twitter and Facebook, this phrase has started to appear prominently.

How and when did it start?

Early March 2021 seems to be the period where the term started to get some traction. TikTok was the platform for directly promoting the new trend. Specifically, a user named @kyleroyce in a TikTok video post of his, is believed to be the first person to do so, and he stated that it was necessary for him to create this new identity as an answer to being called “transphobic” every time he didn’t want to consider trans people as love partners. So, by being “super straight” he’s now able to identify as a person that dates only straight women who are also biologically female.

Allegedly, a secondary cause of this spread may be also linked to a 4chan post. The intentions of this post are obvious and no other than attempting to trigger the LGBTQ+ community. Once the seed was planted, it was a matter of time until it was spread to the rest of the social media. This successfully fulfilled their intentions by causing insufferable triggering and distress to the “sensitive” groups.

In addition, various memes containing the mentioned words are currently being generated as a declaration of support under the argument that it was a necessity to highlight the problem and balance things between the relations of cis-gendered and non-cis-gendered people.

Perhaps, a big role in this fiery support has been the presence of numerous articles and posts on social media constantly judging straight people and labeling them as “bigots” for rejecting members of the LGBQ+ community as potential love partners. Therefore, there was no other option but to create a new gender identity that would provide them with their own “safe space.”

Trending of the “super straight” term

The related search engine history records have risen as much as +242,850 since this new gender identity broke out, according to KeywordTool.io. It’s highly probable that it will keep rising until everybody gets accustomed to it, in hopes that the non-gender-conforming community will get the message.

What to expect?

For the time being, just patiently watching this end, might be the best way to handle it. It’s quite fun for the users and distressful for the offended victims. Before you get worked up about this, remember: it’s just a meme, and it should be treated as such. Likewise, if it manages to cause a huge ruckus in society, then it shows that there are some underlying problems that need to be addressed properly.
