Konami has potentially made ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’ the best ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ ever existed. Here is why.

Konami has jolted the Yu-Gi-Oh! community with the announcement of ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’. Despite the fans having seen numerous Yu-Gi-Oh! games released, this time, this one promises to be different.

What’s so special about ‘Master Duel’?

For starters, ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’ will be available for free on all gaming platforms (including Android and iOS). It will also support crossplay among those. This also means that you’ll be able to save your progress wherever you play. Dueling a diverse plethora of players without any restriction will be the way to go.

Secondly, the game has received massive visual upgrades when compared to any other Yu-Gi-Oh! game. Such as the effects of special summoning, card effects, monster attacks, ‘Chain Link’ resolution, etc. If you ask me, the game really gives some ‘Hearthstone’ vibes on UI design and animation. The game will also run full-screen on 4k on supported devices. This will provide more visual impact and better immersion, to make the game more intense and engaging. Hopefully, we’ll enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh! in all its glory when compared to bad ports, such as ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links’.

Finally, the game will incorporate all the latest rulings and available cards, which amount to over 10,000 in TCG/OCG. As revealed in the ‘Tokyo Game Show’ of 2021, a single-player story mode will also be available for the shy “lone wolves.”

Any potential drawbacks?

The game looks great and very promising on paper, and I strongly believe it will deliver. However, I’m concerned about the “running costs” of the game. Although Konami stated on its official website that the game is going to be free on all platforms, it also mentioned that some cards will be available through events or in-game purchases. Knowing Konami, the prices might be stingy, and there is no word on how many cards will be locked behind a paywall. If I get the same treatment as in ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links’, thanks but no thanks.

When is the release date?

Konami says ‘Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’ will be released in the winter. December is already in, so expect it to be released at any moment between now and March 2022. No specific date has been announced yet, despite the trailer being shown as early as August 2021.

Do you think this will be the best Yu-Gi-Oh! to date?
